In this article, you will learn how to stop your iPhone from acting as your computer's microphone when using Barti. When Continuity Camera is enabled, macOS can use your iPhone as the default microphone. That can cause transcription or voice features in Barti to use the wrong mic or fail. Turning off Continuity Camera (or choosing your Mac's microphone in system settings) usually fixes the issue.
Important note: If Continuity Camera is already off and the issue continues, try selecting your Mac's built-in microphone in System Settings > Sound > Input before using Barti's Transcribe or other voice features.
1. Turn off Continuity Camera on your Mac
- Open System Settings (or System Preferences on older macOS).
- Click General.
- Click AirPlay and Continuity (or AirPlay & Handoff).
- Set Continuity Camera to Off.
Your Mac will no longer use your iPhone as a camera or microphone when it is nearby.
2. Turn off Continuity Camera on your iPhone (alternative)
If you prefer to disable it from your iPhone:
- Open Settings on your iPhone.
- Tap General.
- Tap AirPlay & Continuity (or AirPlay & Handoff).
- Turn Continuity Camera Off.
With Continuity Camera off on the iPhone, your Mac will no longer see your iPhone as an audio or camera device.
3. Use your Mac's microphone in Sound settings (if you keep Continuity Camera on)
If you want to keep Continuity Camera on for other uses but use your Mac's mic in Barti:
- Open System Settings on your Mac.
- Click Sound > Input.
- Select your Mac's built-in microphone (or the external mic you want) instead of your iPhone.
Barti's transcription and other voice features will then use the selected input device.
