Quick answer: When a claim is in Error status, open it and select Retry Submission to move it back to Hold so you can fix and resubmit it. You can also retry several errored claims at once from the claims list.
Who this is for: Billing and claims staff at practices that submit claims through the clearinghouse (TriZetto).
Before you start, you'll need:
- Clearinghouse (TriZetto) claim submission enabled for your practice
- One or more claims showing Error status
Retry one claim
- Open the claim that shows Error status.
- In the claim header, select Retry Submission.
- In the confirmation dialog, select Retry. The dialog reads: "Move this claim back to Hold so it can be resubmitted? The previous submission error will be cleared."
- The claim moves to Hold and the previous error message is cleared.
- Open the claim from Hold, correct whatever caused the failure, and submit it again.
Retry several claims at once
- Go to the claims list.
- Use the checkboxes to select the claims you want to retry.
- In the bulk action bar, select Retry Submission.
- Each selected claim moves back to Hold with its error cleared.
The bulk Retry Submission button is available only when every selected claim is in Error status.
What you'll see when it works
The claim's status changes from Error to Hold, the previous error message disappears, and the claim becomes editable again. Retrying does not resend the claim automatically — submitting again is a separate step after you've made your fixes.
Troubleshooting
Why don't I see a Retry Submission button on my errored claim?
The button appears only on claims that were submitted through the clearinghouse and are in Error status. If the claim reached Error another way, the button won't appear — contact support if you have an errored claim with no clear way to recover it.
Why is the bulk Retry Submission button greyed out?
All selected claims must be in Error status. If any claim in your selection is in a different status, the button is disabled with the message "All selected claims must be in Error status."
Does retrying resend the claim to the clearinghouse automatically?
No. Retrying moves the claim back to Hold and clears the prior error. You still need to review the claim, fix the issue, and submit it again.
What usually causes a claim to land in Error?
An Error is usually a connection issue with TriZetto or a problem with your username and password. First use Retry Submission to send the claim back to Hold and resubmit. If it errors again, re-save your TriZetto username and password in Barti to refresh the connection, then retry once more.
What's the difference between an Error claim and a Rejected claim?
Error means the submission failed and can be retried in Barti. Rejected means the clearinghouse rejected the claim — those use the Mark as Resubmitted in Trizetto option instead.
