Who this is for: Billing staff and administrators at multi-location practices that submit claims under different Federal Tax IDs per location.
Current limitation
Barti currently stores one Federal Tax ID at a time across your organization. If your locations bill under different Tax IDs, there is no way to store both simultaneously — claims submitted while a given Tax ID is active will use that Tax ID, regardless of which location the claim originates from.
The workaround is to submit claims in batches by location, switching the active Tax ID between batches.
How to submit claims by location when Tax IDs differ
Go to your initials (top right) → Organization Settings → General and confirm the Tax ID is set to the correct value for your first location (e.g., Modo Optometry).
Submit all claims for that location.
Return to initials → Organization Settings → General, click Edit, and update the Tax ID to the next location's Tax ID (e.g., Runway). Save your changes.
Submit all claims for that location.
Repeat for any additional locations.
Best practices
Assign one person to own the Tax ID switch each time. Because the system doesn't flag which Tax ID is currently active, having a single owner prevents confusion about which location is "live" at any moment.
Spot-check a few submitted claims per location to confirm the correct Tax ID went out, especially early on while you're building confidence in the process.
If a claim ever needs to be corrected or resubmitted, double-check that the Tax ID is set back to the correct location before resubmitting.
Feature request
Supporting multiple Tax IDs per organization is an existing feature request on our roadmap. If this limitation affects your practice, contact Barti Support so we can log your feedback and notify you if this functionality is added.
