Why am I getting a 403 error in Barti?

Quick answer: A 403 error usually means your connection is being refused before it reaches Barti, most often because you are outside a supported country. It can also mean your user role lacks access to that action.

Who this is for: All Barti users who see a 403, Forbidden, or "You do not have permission to perform this action" error.

What a 403 error means

A 403 error means the request was refused.

  • Your connection is blocked — you are outside a supported country. This is the most common cause.

What to do

1. Confirm you are in a supported location

  • Barti is only accessible from the United States and its territories and the Philippines.

  • If you are traveling or working outside those countries, Barti will return a 403 regardless of your username, password, or role.

  • See What countries can I access Barti from? for the full list and details.

2. Check whether one specific action is failing, or all of Barti

  • All of Barti fails to load — this points to a blocked connection. Return to step 1.

  • Only one button, screen, or report fails while the rest of Barti works normally — this points to your user role. Ask your practice administrator to review your role and permissions.

3. Try a different network

  • Switch to another connection, such as a phone hotspot instead of office Wi-Fi.

  • If Barti works on the other network, your original internet connection is being identified as outside a supported location. Contact Barti Support with your city, state, and internet provider.

4. Contact Barti Support if the error continues

Include the following so Support can identify the cause without guesswork:

  • The exact error message and the time it happened

  • What you were doing — signing in, or a specific action in Barti

  • Your city and state

  • Whether other staff at your practice see the same error

What you'll see when it works

Barti loads normally and the action you were attempting completes. If the cause was your user role, the screen or button becomes available once an administrator updates your permissions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a 403 error mean my account was disabled or locked? No. A 403 means a request was refused, not that your account has a problem. A disabled account or wrong password produces a sign-in failure on the login screen instead.

Everyone at my practice suddenly gets a 403. What changed? A practice-wide 403 usually points to a change in your internet connection rather than to Barti accounts — for example a new internet provider, or a provider reassigning your connection. Contact Barti Support and mention that all staff are affected.

I get a 403 only when I work from home. Why? Your home connection may be identified as outside a supported location or something else about your ip address has been flagged. Contact Barti Support with your home internet provider and your city and state.

Will I get a 403 if my session is open and I connect from somewhere else? Yes. Barti re-checks your connection while you work, so an active session can start failing if your connection changes to a blocked location.
