Who this is for: All Barti users who take calls on a Yealink T54W hard (desk) phone. This article doesn't cover calls made through the Barti app.
Before you start, you'll need:
A Yealink T54W hard phone
An active first call, and a second call coming in
Steps
Answer the first call as you normally would.
When a second call comes in and you want to take it, put the first call on hold. Press the Hold button on the display screen, or press the physical Hold key (the phone icon with a pause symbol).
Answer the second call:
If the handset is on the base, pick it up to answer normally.
If the handset is off the base, press Answer on the display screen.
To put the second call on hold, press the physical Hold key (the phone icon with a pause symbol).
This does not return you to the first call — it only holds the second call. Continue to the next step to switch back.
To switch back to the first call, press Swap on the display screen while the second call is active (not on hold). Swap immediately places the second call on hold and reconnects you to the first.
Repeat step 5 any time you want to toggle back and forth between the two calls.
What you'll see when it works
The display screen shows both calls, with the one you're not currently on marked as held. The four buttons at the bottom of the screen change depending on how many calls you have and whether the second call is live or on hold — see the reference below.
Understanding the four display buttons
With one call, the display always shows the same four buttons: Transfer, Hold, New Call, and End Call. Once a second call is active, the second and third buttons change function depending on whether that second call is live or on hold — the second button becomes Swap or Resume, and the third becomes Conference or New Call. The first and fourth buttons (Transfer and End Call) stay the same in every state.
Button position | One call | Two calls — second call live | Two calls — second call on hold |
1 (leftmost) | Transfer | Transfer | Transfer |
2 | Hold | Swap | Resume |
3 | New Call | Conference | New Call |
4 (rightmost) | End Call | End Call | End Call |
Troubleshooting
I pressed Hold on my second call, but I can't get back to my first call. What am I doing wrong?
Pressing Hold on the second call only holds that call — it doesn't switch you back. To return to your first call, press Swap before putting the second call on hold. If you've already put the second call on hold, press Resume to make it live again, then press Swap to switch to the first call.
Can I put more than two calls on hold on the same phone?
We've tested and confirmed the workflow above for two calls at the same time on a single T54W phone. We're currently testing what happens with three or more calls, and we'll update this article once that behavior is confirmed. In the meantime, if a third call comes in while you have two active, the safest option is to end or transfer one of your current calls before answering it, or have a teammate take it from another phone.
