How do I complete identity proofing for ePrescribe?

Identity proofing is a one-time verification step required by Surescripts before you can send prescriptions. Dosespot handles it through Experian — you'll need your address, SSN, and other identifying information to complete it.

Who this is for: Optometrists and prescribing providers going through ePrescribe setup for the first time. Barti CS initiates this process — contact [email protected] if you haven't received your identity proofing email.

Before you start, you'll need:

  • The identity proofing email from Dosespot (each link expires after 24 hours)

  • Your home or office address — no PO Boxes accepted

  • Your Social Security Number (SSN)

  • Your state license number and Type 1 NPI on file with Barti CS

Why identity proofing is required

Surescripts requires all prescribers to complete identity proofing to prevent unauthorized access and prescription fraud. Dosespot completes this process through Experian.

Experian does not run a soft or hard credit check. Your SSN and other identifying information are used only to verify your identity and are not stored or retained by Dosespot or Experian after the process is complete.

Steps

  1. Open the identity proofing email from Dosespot and click the verification link. Each link expires after 24 hours.

  2. Complete the identity proofing form. You'll need to provide:

    • Your address (no PO Boxes — use a physical street address)

    • Your SSN

    • Other identifying information as prompted by Experian, which may include your date of birth and phone number

  3. Submit the form. Dosespot will review your submission.

  4. Once approved, open Barti and navigate to the prescription page. This step is required — your registration won't advance until you open the prescription page at least once.

  5. Accept the terms on first use when prompted.

What you'll see when it works

Your ePrescribe account status updates to Ready to prescribe. You can now send prescriptions from a patient's profile or the prescription page.

Troubleshooting

I didn't receive my identity proofing email.

Check your spam or junk folder. If the email isn't there, contact [email protected] — Barti CS can ask Dosespot to resend it. The link is re-sent once a day for up to 7 business days; if all links expire, CS will need to request a new set.

My link expired before I could complete proofing.

Each link is valid for 24 hours. Contact [email protected] to request a new link.

Can I use a PO Box for my address?

No. Identity proofing requires a physical street address. Enter your office or home address on the Dosespot form.

The address Barti sends to Dosespot is your primary location address, not a personal one. An admin can update it under Settings > Locations. Your own name, date of birth, phone number, NPI, and license number are updated separately under Account Settings > Profile > Edit. If you are not an admin, ask an admin in your organization to update the location address.

Can I include "OD" in my name during identity proofing?

No. Enter your legal name only — do not include professional suffixes like "OD."

My clinic name is longer than 35 characters — will that cause an issue?

Yes. Dosespot has a 35-character limit on clinic names. If your clinic name exceeds this, contact [email protected] — this is a known limitation.

Why does Experian need my SSN?

Experian uses your SSN and other identifying information to verify your identity. This is required by Surescripts for all prescribers. Neither Dosespot nor Experian stores or retains this information after verification is complete, and no credit check is performed.
