Frequently asked questions

Why do some files have an AI summary and others don't?

Barti creates summaries automatically in two ways:

  • When staff upload a PDF to a patient's Files, Barti summarizes it shortly after upload.

  • For files already on a patient's chart, including files imported from a previous system, Barti summarizes the patient's most recent files before an upcoming appointment.

A file may not have a summary if it is older than the patient's most recent files, or if the patient has no upcoming appointment.

Which files are not summarized?

  • Files that are not PDFs, such as images or Word documents.

  • Files sent to Barti from connected diagnostic equipment.

  • Claim documents, faxes, and data files from your data migration.

  • PDFs Barti could not read, such as empty or damaged files.

Will an older file get a summary later?

It can. When the patient has an upcoming appointment, Barti summarizes their most recent files ahead of the visit. You can't request a summary for a specific file.

If an appointment is rescheduled or canceled, does the summary go away?

No. Once a file has a summary, it stays on the patient's chart, whatever happens to the appointment.

Why doesn't a same-day or walk-in patient have summaries yet?

Summaries for existing files are created in the background before appointments. If an appointment is booked shortly before the visit, the summaries may not be ready yet. New PDFs you upload are still summarized shortly after upload.

How do I know a file has a summary?

Files with a summary show text in the Summary column and a star icon. Select the star to open the AI File Summary. Files without a summary show an empty Summary column.
