Starting an Exam

There are multiple areas to begin an exam

  1. Patient Chart

  2. Exam section in the menu

  3. Appointment Modal

Exam Overview

When creating an exam from the patient profile or the exam section, you will have the opportunity to choose your exam template. If you start an exam from the appointment modal, the exam template will be based off of the appointment type selected.

The Exam view is split up into 3 different columns

  1. Left Column: Table of contents to help you navigate through each section. The main sections can be compressed or expanded.

  2. Center Column: Main Exam

  3. Right Column: Reference Data

    1. Patient demographics

    2. Rx History

    3. IOP History

    4. Intake History

    5. Previous Exams

    6. Referral Letters

Several features in the exam help create efficiency. Here are a few:

  • Mark as Normal: Located at the top of the page, this button will mark the entire exam with normative values

  • Copy Forward: You will be able to copy forward from a previous exam

  • Populate With: You can populate refraction values from the current exam or any previous exams. Below are the sections that have ‘Populate With’ Available

    • Autorefraction

    • Manifest Refraction

    • Final Glasses Rx

    • Contact Lens Trials and Rx

Final Contact Lens Prescription

In the event that an exam is closed out with a Contact Lens Prescription that has not been finalized, you will not be able to print that Rx for the patient. In order to print out he prescription you will need to do the following

  1. Navigate to the patient profile

  2. Create New Exam

    • Choose “Finalized Contact Lens Prescription” as your exam template

  3. Populate the Rx with the previous Trial

  4. Rename the Rx

  5. Mark the Rx as Final

  6. Add Additional Notes

Why is the provider signature missing when printing from the patient profile?

The provider signature will only show up on the prescription when printing it from the patient profile if the exam itself is finalized. If the exam isn't finalized, but the Rx within the exam has been marked Final, printing from within the exam will include the provider signature — but printing that same prescription from the patient profile will NOT include it. If the signature is still missing after the exam is finalized, contact [email protected] with the patient's MRN for further investigation.

Recording Pupillary Distance (PD)

There is no dedicated pupillary distance (PD) field within the exam itself. PD can be recorded in one of two places depending on what you need:

  1. To have the PD print on the exam/Final Rx printout: enter it as a note on the Final Rx section of the exam. It will appear on the printout from there.

  2. To record PD for an optical order (glasses being made): use the dedicated PD and seg height fields within the optical order workflow itself.
